Dock targets are great, they greatly simplify the ability to place a dock panel in Visual Studio in just the right location. Like a mind reading snap-to feature :) Sometimes these dock targets get in the way with what you’re trying to do. If you need to move a dockable panel to a very specific place, the dock target may be in the way. This trick shows you how to temporarily disable (only during the single drag-n-drop dock panel operation) dock targets.

Visual Studio Tip / Trick #010 English Transcription:

Today's VSTricks.com trick is a video re-post of Sara Ford's original trick published on August 8th 2007. Trick number 10 "Using and Avoiding Docking Targets". So by now we probably all seen that we can drag a toolbar, or tool window rather, to a special place in Visual Studio and its made very nice by these docking targets. BUT one thing you may not know is how to avoid those docking targets. So, let's say you're dragging a Find Results set and you really wanted to be about here but that target is in your way. So, if you hold down the [CTRL] key while you are dragging your tool window, you'll see that those docking targets disappear and let you put that window anywhere you want it.
