Visual Studio (2005,2008,2010) Tips and Tricks.

#51 How to cycle through the clipboard ring to paste different items?

You can cycle through the past 20 items you've either cut or copied onto the clipboard via Ctrl+Shift+V.  Pretty cool, huh? As an added bonus for users of Visual Studio 2005, on the View menu, there is the option to view your Clipboard ring, which shows up as a list in your Toolbox. That visual has been removed for 2008, and as far as I can tell, hasn't returned for Studio 2010.

Visual Studio Tip / Trick #051 English Transcription:

Today’s Visual Studio Trick No. 51 was originally wall posted by Sara Ford in October of 2007. The idea here is a clipboard ring. So as you copy something, you know that what you have highlighted goes on to your clipboard so that you can easily then paste it with [CTRL]+[V]. But did you know that there is such a thing as a clipboard ring. So if you do [CTRL]+[V], that pastes the last item that is on top of your clipboard stack, if you will. Now if you do [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[V], then you’ll paste that last item, but you’ll also have that text highlighted. While you are still holding down [CTRL]+[SHIFT], you cycle the [V] key, it will then let you run through your clipboard ring. And the last item that you drop is now on top of the stack. So now if I do [CTRL]+[V] again, you can see that on top. [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[V], its gonna start cycling through all the things that are on the clipboard. Really helpful if you have to say copy this and this to another page. Now you can go where you need to, simply do a [CTRL]+[V] and then [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[V] and it lets you copy more than one thing sequentially. Save a little back and forth action. This works the same in Visual Studio 2005 as it does in Visual Studio 2008.
