#3 Windows 7 “New Folder” Keyboard Shortcut

Organization is the name of the game, when keeping track of files/folders on your computer. Any computer, Any operating system, it doesn’t matter, if you have tens of thousands of files, they need to be organized. Typically these are organized is some sort of nested fashion. If you don’t use folders, then you end up with hundreds or possible thousands of files in the same place, and things just get harder to find.

Think about your Downloads directory. Everything you download get’s stuffed into the same directory. Think about the ease of having a Utils directory, or maybe a PDFs directory.

Now I’m getting side tracked, but the bottom line is ... you’ll need to create folders, and here is a little keyboard shortcut that makes life a tiny little bit easier.

If you're a KB junkie, save your time on the video, the trick is [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[N] in any Explorer window/dialog (including File | Save, Save As).

Good Morning, I have got a little windows 7 trick for you which deals with windows explorer. I have docked my windows explorer down here at the bottom and where my task bar. And the trick is around creating a new folder. So if you are in a dialogue you can click this button new folder or I just found out you can use the keyboard shortcut [CTRL]+[SHIFT],[N] and that will create a new folder ready for you to type. So I will just create that called delete me and now I can actually delete it. So the questions probably is why do that, why not just click the new folder button well a lot of times your hands are around keyboard and you don’t wanna reach for the mouse. In particular you should know that windows explorer works in a lot of places around windows in addition to inside the native explorer shell. So for example if you are on the internet and you are downloading something you can, or you will be presented with this save dialogue. So if you are downloading a file and it says save as, instead of just putting every thing in one folder you can create a new folder. So right now its asking me for the file name but if I use my short cut [CTRL]+[SHIFT],[N] now I can save this as the bing HTML [ENTER], [ENTER] and that will take me into my new folder bing HTML where that file will be saved. So [CTRL]+[SHIFT],[N] creates a new folder as a key board shortcut. Somebody told me that works in Vista also I didn’t know about it back it Vista but if you have vista may be that will help you so tip of the day for windows 7 [CTRL]+[SHIFT],[N] create a new shortcut. Hope you having a good day!
